DIRECTOR OF ELEMENTARY EDUCATION

Appointment:

Chief Academic Officer

 

Qualifications:

  • Valid Kentucky teaching certification for elementary and/or middle school
  • Certificate for Instructional leadership
  • A minimum of five (5) year successful classroom teaching experience

Reports To:

Deputy Superintendent

Terms of Employment:  

Days of Employment - 240 days

Grade: 11

 

Salary:

Commensurate with the school district’s Certified Salary Schedule

Physical Qualifications:

shall have the ability to sit, stoop, possibly lift up to 50 pounds or more, and any/all body movements as related to the job description.

Job Goal:  

To provide direct support and assistance to middle and high school leadership and staff in district-wide initiatives and facilitate in the planning and implementation of an educational program that will improve student achievement.

 

Professional Responsibilities

 

  • General Duties:
  • Provide leadership in the development of the K-5 instructional program and achievement of state curriculum standards and district goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the implementation of standards work in all content areas and ensure schools adhere to local, state and federal education standards 

 

      • Work directly with principals and curriculum specialists to ensure instruction is high quality and equitable in all classrooms. 
      • Research past and current practices in areas of standards, assessment, and instruction.
      • Guide and support Curriculum Specialists in all areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
      • Ensure Professional Learning Communities are established and working at high levels in all schools.
      • Work directly with the Director of Secondary Education to ensure vertical alignment is maintained from K-12.

 

  • Collaborate on the district’s Comprehensive Improvement Plan and provide support for all schools on their school Improvement Plan.

  • General Duties (continued):

 

    • Stay abreast of and interpret to staff the current research in relevant areas of curriculum development, teaching and learning.
    • Plan and present data and information related to secondary curriculum, instruction and assessment to the board of education.
    • Oversee and provide support and guidance in the area of professional development.
    • Oversee MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) at the secondary level.
    • Work directly with the Director of Elementary to orient new teachers to the district.
    • Visit classrooms and school sites on a regular basis to monitor the effectiveness of the school wide education program.
    • Attend professional training related to curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
    • Maintain and follow systems established in the area of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
    • Evaluate personnel established by the supervisor.
    • Other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent.
